Beginning Quilt Making

Sessions A, B and C offer an introduction, or a review, of basic quilting skills. Sign up for one, two or all three of the 4-hour classes.

You will be making a table runner, start to finish, featuring three different pieced blocks with borders and cornerstones. This will cover all the basics and give you confidence to start your next project!

Session A- hone cutting and sewing skills and piece blocks

  •  Learn/review rotary cutting skills
  •  Practice ¼” seams
  •  Construct Rail Fence blocks using straight seams
  •  Construct 9-Patch blocks using sub-cut sewn strips

Session B
- complete the quilt top
  • Construct Friendship Square blocks using half square triangles
  • Assemble and sew together the pieced blocks
  • Measure for and attach borders and cornerstones
  • Measure for and make a binding

Session C- quilt and finish the table runner
  • Pin baste the layers of the quilt “sandwich”
  • Install and practice sewing with a walking foot

  • Quilt the table runner

  • Sew the binding on to the quilted runner
